Fixed Lower Retraction Appliance L

In many adult cases with lower anterior flaring, positive individual bodily tooth movement combined with root torquing is desirable. The design offered here is very popular and effective in treating this situation. It employs limited bracketing, provides optimum anchorage, and allows for individual mesial/distal, as well as lingual, tooth movement. Anchorage is provided by a banded, fixed lingual arch wire from first bicuspid to first bicuspid. A sectional arch wire can then be used along with chain elastics to retract the incisors as well as control their mesial and distal positions. Once the anteriors are retracted, they usually need to be splinted together. They can be temporarily splinted using steel ligature underties.
